Kansas (0-4, 0-3 Big 12) at No. 20 Kansas State (3-1, 3-0), Saturday at noon ET (FS1).
Line: Kansas State by 20.
Series record: Kansas 65-47-5.
WHAT’S AT STAKE?
Kansas State could extend its winning streak over Kansas to a series-record 12 consecutive games. But more importantly, the Wildcats can remain unbeaten and in first place in the Big 12. The Jayhawks could finally end a streak of misery that began under Mark Mangino, continued under Turner Gill, got worse under Charlie Weis and David Beaty, and extended yet another season under Les Miles a year ago.
KEY MATCHUP
Kansas State RB Deuce Vaughn against the Kansas run defense. The Jayhawks allowed 226 yards rushing at West Virginia last week, and now face one of the dynamic young running backs in the league. Vaughn has 517 yards and scored four touchdowns in just 59 touches running and catching through the first four games of his career.
PLAYERS TO WATCH1,
Kansas: RB Velton Gardner. Dynamic running back Pooka Williams opted out of the remainder of the season earlier this week, leaving Gardner as the clear-cut No. 1. He has 47 carries for 225 yards with a couple of touchdowns.
Kansas State: QB Will Howard. The freshman took over for injured starter Skylar Thompson and guided the Wildcats the rest of the way against Texas Tech and TCU. Kansas State had a bye last week, giving Howard an extra week with starting reps to better acclimate himself to running coach Chris Klieman's offensive system.
